Neil Warnock's side have now gone 3 games without a win, and were hoping to end that a drought with a game against title chasing side Brentford, who were looking for their 20th league game unbeaten.

The first goal came only 3 minutes into the game when new signing Neeskens Kebano floated in a dangerous looking cross. The Bees keeper David Raya scuffed the shot badly after coming to collect it, and put the ball into his own net giving the boys in red the lead.

For the next 30 minutes Thomas Frank's team were relentless on Boro's back four, and the equaliser eventually came in the 38th minute when Tariqe Fosu slipped the ball into the league's top goal scorer, Ivan Toney, for a simple side footed finish to bring his team level.

Right before half time Middlesbrough's number 9, Britt Assombalonga, hit the post thanks to an excellent save from David Raya. The rebound fell to George Saville who scuffed the ball in front of a gaping goal and safely into the hands of the Brentford keeper.

With the second half underway Brentford seemed the more likely to take the lead, and in the 58th minute they did just that with a goal from Vitaly Janelt. His low shot from the edge of the area was enough to beat Marcus Bettinelli and for the Bees to go ahead for the first time in the match.

The Boro pressed for that all important equaliser, however Paddy McNair's slip on the halfway line left Mathias Jensen to run free at the Boro goal eventually taking it round Bettinelli for tidy finish into an empty net.

The game seemed all over for Neil Warnock's side and in the 80th minute Ivan Toney made sure of it. Marcus Bettinelli tipped Rico Henry's original shot onto the bar before Toney headed it to make it 4. This is his 22nd goal of the season and his 6th in just 3 games.

The Boro are still yet to win a game in six matches and the hopes of changing that rest in their next match against Derby. Brentford, however, are no touching distance of the top spot, this win moving them only one point behind Norwich.
