Paul Warne's side where looking for their 3rd successive win tonight against a powerful looking Cardiff side. Both teams were in form and were arguably having their best period of the whole season, so tonight's match was never going to disappoint.
With the Millers gaining 13 points out of their last 6, it was clear to see why they started on the front foot, Michael Smith causing a few problems at the back. Smith was taken out in the penalty area by Curtis Nelson but referee Geoff Eltringham had none of it, despite the cries from the reds.
Even though both teams looked promising, it was the visitors who struck first after a quick counter attack saw Sheyi Ojo bag his fifth goal of the season. The ball was released quickly to Harry Wilson who ran it up field, before sliding a composed pass into Ojo.
In the second half The Bluebirds came out the more fiery with the confidence of a goal lead behind them. Wilson's shot forced Viktor Johansson into an early instinctive save, keeping his side in the game.
Despite Cardiff's best efforts to double their lead, in the 61st minute Rotherham were level thanks to Matt Crooks. In similar fashion to the first, the Millers goal came from a quick break. Smith took the ball down the left hand side, before crossing it into the path of Crooks for an easy finish.
As the snow began to get heavy in the New York stadium, the last 15 minutes was played with a yellow ball, replacing the almost invisible white one.
With the game still in deadlock and both teams eager to snatch the winner, it was Cardiff who came out on top in the depths off normal. Substitute Josh Murphy lashed a perfect ball into the box,, and Joe Bennet finished it off with a well timed header. The 88th minute winner was enough for the Bluebirds to secure all three points, despite the prolonged 8 minutes extra time.
This loss for Rotherham puts them only one point above the relegation zone, however Paul Warne's side look to change that in their up and coming match against QPR at the weekend. The win for Cardiff puts them 11th and only 3 points behind 7th placed Middlesbrough.
