The Cherries, who had sacked previous manager Jason Tindall on Tuesday, were looking for their first league win since the beginning of January. Jonathan Woodgate, who's stepped in as acting manager, was hopeful he could do just that.
Birmingham are currently surviving just outside the relegation zone, so a win would see them up to a comfortable 19th, just in front of Coventry.
Aitor Karanka's team started the game off by creating the better chances and seemed the more likely to go in front. Scott Hogan was the man to eventually put the Blues ahead when Asmir Begovic fumbled Gary Gardner's low cross into the box.
It didn't take long for the home side to retaliate and 9 minutes after the first goal, Arnaut Danjuma brought the game level with some clever build up play from Jack Wilshire in the process.
With an hour played Jack Wilshire finally bagged one for himself, to put his team level for the first time. Adam Smith's cross met Wilshire in the box for a looping header from six yards out. This is only Wilshire's first goal of the season.
5 minutes later Birmingham responded to draw the game level, with a powerful header from Scott Hogan after Ivan Sanchez's inch perfect cross.
With the game looking like it go either direction, Philip Billing made sure that it was his team going away with all three points this afternoon. Darjuman's whipped freekick allowed for a simple tap in from Billing scoring his second of the season.
This loss for Birmingham sees them drop into the relegation zone, as for Bournemouth they move five points clear of Middlesbrough who are currently 7th.
